Many people participate in these sports as an enjoyable pastime and not as a means of competition. There are a few governing bodies for these amateur athletic events; the most prominent is the Amateur Sports Trade Association (ATA). Every four years, a new Olympic sport is created so that the older sports can continue their competitions with newer sports. Even though the modern version of the games have evolved into a more competitive setting, the spirit behind the games is the same. A lot of hard work and sacrifice is required to achieve gold and silver. It is the dream of every competitor to win the Olympic games and to be inducted into the Olympic Hall of Fame.
